I picked up Jeff Smith's Bone in an attempt to further my sister's comic book reading and we ended up loving this series.
The color series just recently came to a conclusion, So I decided to have a review of the whole series now that I've read it all.
Now before going into the review, Let me give you a little background on the creator, Jeff Smith.
Jeff Smith is a cartoonist currently from Columbus, Ohio and has been drawing since he was ten years old, In 1991, he launched his company, Cartoon Books, in order to publish his comic book series Bone which ran for 55 issues from 1991 to 2004.
In 2005 Scholastic started re-releasing Bone into 9 volumes in full color which in January, we saw the release of the last volume, Bone Vol.9 Crown of Horns.
Bone is a fantasy story the revolve around the Bone family, especially the Bone cousins, Phoncible P. "Phoney" Bone the goofy bone, Smiley Bone the mischief one and our lead character Fone Bone.
The story starts with the Bone cousins being kicked out of Boneville and having to live out in the desert, after wondering around for a while they stumble upon a
a forest and a girl named Rose ant the story continues from there. I decided to be spoiler free for anyone who want to read the series.
The story continues with kings and princesses, rat creatures, dragons, and many more characters ,the best part of the story for me was the chemistry between Fone bone and Rose.
Jeff Smith takes his time establishing each character early on while still leaving space for surprises.
The books take a more serious and fantasy turn toward the latter book starting around book 5 but once you are there, your so committed to the story that it helps you to push forward.
the story ends with a nice conclusion and closes the series very nicely, I recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of fantasy stories of all ages.
