Book Review ; Jeff Lemire's Essex County Trilogy

The book I'm reviewing is Jeff Lemire's Essex County, the beautiful hardcover trilogy that came out last year which included all 3 main stories & bonus shorts stories.
I had the luxury of both meeting and talking to Jeff Lemire at Windy City Comicon 2009 and i got both my Essex county and The Nobody signed.

This book is separated into three main stories, Tales from the Farm, Ghost Stories & The Country Nurse all gorgeously written and drawn by Jeff Lemire.

Tales from the farm is a story that revolves around three people, Lester, Kenny & Jim.
Lester is a teenage boy who recently lost his mother and is being raised by his uncle Kenny and Jim is a former hockey player who befriends Lester.
Tales from the farm is by far my favorite of the three, it's a great story about choosing when to let go & about growing up.
The story is equally paced and it sets the readers up for a nice reveal.

Ghost Stories is a story about an old man named Lou Lebeuf who is reminiscing about the good old days of playing hockey with his brother Vince & how their lives intertwine throughout their lifetime.
This story is about looking back, regrets and getting back to where you belong.
Ghost story gives you a look at a life of someone from his early 20's to his late 60's with all his ups and downs, it can be read as a stand-alone but has a small connection to the first story.

The Country Nurse is about a nurse named Anne who takes care of most people in Essex County, she also bring both stories together and it give the trilogy a good conclusion.
This story is about closure and bringing people together, this story gives us the beginning and the present of our two stories from an outside perceptive.

I definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants a great story or even for first-timer looking to get into some good graphic novels.

Check out the book at your local library or buy it online at Amazon.
